Tips And Tricks For Cleaning Your Office
Posted on 5th June 2015 by Keith Hirst
We all know how much a clean office can mean, it’s the difference between workers having to sit in a grimey, germ laden space which is crowded by rubbish, and working in a clean, pristine and fresh environment. The former will demotivate your workers and make them feel undervalued, while the latter will keep their spirits up and allow them to concentrate on their work properly.
This month we’ve got some simple tips and tricks to help you keep your office in tip top condition.
Computer & Keyboard
If you’re sat in front of a computer all day then the chances are that it gets pretty grimey. You’re constantly breathing, talking and possibly sneezing in the direction of your computer screen, building up a grimey, dusty screen. This is simple to get rid of with a cloth and an appropriate cleaning spray, you just need to keep on top of it.
Your keyboard might be a little trickier to clean, especially if you eat a lot at your desk. You can turn your keyboard upside down and give it a gentle shake to try and get rid of all the debris, but if you really want a thorough clean you might have to carefully take all the keys off to clean underneath them.
Desks & Drawers
In a similar vein to your computer screen, your desk is the place where you spend most of your day. For this reason it should be as tidy and clean as possible, both to stop the spread of germs and to keep your mind free of clutter, focused on the important tasks instead.
Your drawers might seem like a great place to hid all of your rubbish but it’s only a limited space. Eventually you’ll want to use your drawers for something practical and you will find you don’t have the space. To tackle this you should ensure you regularly empty out your draws of clutter and litter, it might help to assign each drawer a function if you have more than one, the first for paperwork, the second for personal office supplies and the third for your food or crockery.
Should you have a job which involves you being on the telephone a lot then you should consider keeping yours in top condition. Taking pride in your tools will help you to stop the spread of germs and prevent it from becoming grubby looking.
Give it a dusting off overall every week and use a toothpick to draw out any grime from the lines in the casing and around the buttons. If you have a coiled wire then give this a rub down with a damp cloth every so often to remove dirt.
Bins & Recycling
While recycling and being environmentally conscious is key these days, your office deserves a dedicated waste and recycling system for a different reason. If you leave rubbish to fester in your office without bins being emptied then you’ll create horrible smells. This is bad for your business, with guests and clients taking this into account for their impression of you. It can also increase the likelihood of you attracting pests and vermin in your office.
